Final battle lasted for not much time. A monstrously powerful magic collapsed on cities and industrial centers of both countries, burning and polluting all around. A lot of ponies and zebras died in a short period of time.

Some ponies were lucky: they were able to hide in the Stables, which built exactly for the situations like Apocalypse, and designed, how they thought, to protect them against from not already native outside world.

Somepony were less luckily. Not having time, or non having a place in Stable, ponies who stayed on the surface tried somehow to save. Later, they either mutated, and turned into the deadlike things - ghouls, or died from the radiation. They began to envy ponies, who were fortunate being saved into the Stables, but more those ponies, who died at once.
