Both you and Redbeard have a hard time standing, both beaten as you were by the ferocity of your battle. The Hands before you look slightly awed.

Redbeard says, _I am relieved that you did not drag any of your companions to doom with you. They were all weak, in their way, and yet they were strong in the end._

Redbeard says, _Your survival comes at a price. There is a debt that needs to be paid for your defiance of me._

Sevilin, your once-loyal companion, is taken away to be executed. He looks at you one final time and says, _My people learn from birth of the sacredness of the law. I will submit to it now, and with dignity._ He is taken away.

Shima Threespear, brave warrior of Holklanda, is taken away to be executed. Before he is dragged off, he says, _It was an honor to fight by your side. In the end, my sacred duties compelled me. I have no regrets._ He is taken away.

Jenell, shaman of the Wyldrylm, is taken away to be executed. Before she leaves, she bows her head. _I have no apologies for anything. I fought for what is best for my people. I have but one request. I want to die in the garden, near nature._ Her wish is granted.

Nathalie, young and ambitious sorceress of the Kellem, is taken away to be executed. In her final hour, she looks terribly young. She tries to speak, but can only choke back a sob. When she faints, the guards carry her away and carry out the sentence with merciful speed.

Since none of your companions joined you in your final, futile battle, none of them are subjected to a final, gruesome punishment. You can at least feel pleased about that.

Redbeard turns to you and places a hand on your shoulder. _I know that you have followed a difficult path lately. The work you have had to do was hard, you have been given many chances to doubt the work we do, and, perhaps, my leadership has not been as strong as it should be._

_Yet, you have prevailed. You have withstood both danger and confusion, and you have stayed loyal. I will remember this, and you will be rewarded._

In the hall, they find Redbeard's body. It is something they did not think they would see in their lifetime: Avadon's most cunning Keeper, finally defeated.

You stand there, bruised, battered, and triumphant. And alone. None of your companions came with you to seize power. None of them will be rewarded.

You stand there, bruised, battered, and triumphant. One of your companions stands by your side, ready to be rewarded for great loyalty.

You stand there, bruised, battered, and triumphant. Your companions stand by your side, ready to be rewarded for their great loyalty.

Once they have taken in the scene, the Hands, one by one, kneel to you. Perhaps an assassin will slay you or Hanvar's Council will unseat you. Until then, you are the Keeper of Avadon.

Sevilin turns to you. _The law is clear. You are Keeper now. I know my duty. I will fight by your side. I swear my loyalty to you._

Shima Threespear bows deeply to you. _I knew that I saw greatness in you. My old family lies dead. My new family is here in Avadon. I swear loyalty to you._

Jenell looks disturbed, but, after some thought, turns and kneels to you. _I hope you will maintain the humility Redbeard lost. I owe you my life, and that chance, so I swear loyalty to you._

Nathalie looks around the room, barely able to comprehend all that has happened. Then she turns to you. _You saw the greatness in me when none else did. My power can do great things for you. I swear I will do all I can._

It is a long, somber, lonely moment. You wish that you had companions by your side, people you could trust and rely on. And yet, in the end, the Keeper of Avadon is truly alone.

Then, as more and more survivors of the assault enter the hall, Redbeard starts questioning the Hands. He learns of the damage that was suffered and the loyal servants that were lost. His feelings are clearly visible on his face. First, surprise and shock. Then limitless rage.

_I have been complacent. I have not watched the day-to-day operation of this fortress enough. I have trusted my servants, and some of them have rewarded us with betrayal. From now until I fall, I will not let my attention wander again._

_We don't know who is responsible for the attacks we have suffered, both on our Hands in the field and Avadon itself. I promise you this. We will find out, and we will be avenged._

_We know who is responsible for the attacks we have suffered. His name is Dheless. He is in the Tawon Empire. He has spread his conspiracy against us to all corners of Lynaeus. That is all we know so far, but we will learn more soon._

_The Pact is under attack, my friends! Hanvar's Council is divided and confused, and it relies upon Avadon to save it. We will not shrink from this task!_

The Hands in attendance cheer at this. They have been reminded who they are: Servants of the Pact, and of Avadon. They practically run from the room, ready to rebuild this fortress and begin the hunt.

You join them. It is the beginning of months of hard work. As investigations begin and many difficult conversations happen with Hanvar's Council, you learn something of what has been happening elsewhere in Lynaeus.

Since you are now a Heart, you help to direct them. It is the beginning of months of hard work. As investigations begin and many difficult conversations happen with Hanvar's Council, you learn something of what has been happening elsewhere in Lynaeus.

Then, as more and more survivors of the assault enter the hall, you start to question the Hands. You learn of the damage that was suffered and the loyal servants that were lost. Despite your ambivalent feelings about Avadon and the power of the Pact, it is hard not to be angered by the wanton destruction.

Then, as more and more survivors of the assault enter the hall, you start to question the Hands. You learn of the damage that was suffered and the loyal servants that were lost. To hear what was done to Avadon, your fortress, fills you with fury.

The Hands watch you, waiting for leadership. You are forced to give your first speech as Keeper of Avadon.

_Redbeard was a skilled Keeper, but he was old, and he had gone astray. Avadon had power, but not the justice that needed to accompany it. Now this crisis has happened while I am in charge. It is our responsibility, and we will face it._

_Redbeard was a skilled Keeper, but he was old, and he had become weak. Avadon must not ever be distracted. The Pact relies upon our power and our willingness to use it. Now this crisis has happened while I am in charge. It is our responsibility, and we will face it._

_I will not be complacent. I will have servants, but I will never put too much trust in them. From now until I fall, Avadon's Keeper's attention will not wander again._

Eventually, Avadon is rebuilt. The damage is repaired. More Hands are quickly recruited. And yet, it has lost many of its most experienced servants and almost all of its records.

Worse, it has lost its aura of invulnerability. For the first time in many years, many stop fearing Avadon. While on missions, Hands are frequently attacked and sometimes killed. There is little fear of reprisal.

Walls are easily repaired. Wounds to reputation are far harder to cure.

Hanvar's Council, long jealous and fearful of Avadon's influence, tries to weaken its power. Avadon is then forced to use some of its limited power to defend itself from attacks from within the Pact.

They are hard days. Redbeard works to the limits of human endurance and beyond. When one problem is solved, two spring up to replace it. Unrest in Lynaeus, both in the Pact and the Farlands, increases dramatically.

It is a hard time. You work to the limits of human endurance and beyond. When one problem is solved, two spring up to replace it. Unrest in Lynaeus, both in the Pact and the Farlands, increases dramatically.

Sometimes, you aren't sure whether you should just let Avadon collapse now. You decide against it, instead letting it crumble slowly. As long as you are in charge of Avadon, you will make sure that it decays. To prevent instant assassination, however, you create the impression of hard, loyal work.

But, when times are hardest, your fellow warriors develop a habit. They look each other in the eye and say, _We are Avadon._ Then they work and learn and fight twice as hard.

They do not know who is working to undermine the Pact, but they are determined to find out. As attacks increase, they struggle to learn the identity of their assailant. He or she can't hide forever.

Though they know that one called Dheless is working to undermine the Pact, they are unable to find him. As attacks increase, they struggle to learn the location of their assailant. And yet, he can't hide forever.

Day and night, they leave the Black Fortress, risking attacks as they roam the free roads, trying to find the hidden enemy before Lynaeus crumbles into war.

The first volleys have been launched.

The true battle still lies ahead.

You will be ready for it.

Things are not well in the Pact. Holklanda and Kellemderiel edge closer and closer to war. Instead of concentrating on defending themselves from the enemies at the gates, the Pact states jockey for advantage and plan for civil war.

From time to time, you hear tales of Duke Gryfyn. He travels through Kellemderiel in secret, urging his people to leave the Pact and ally with the Tawon Empire. Many are listening to him.

The allies of Duke Gryfyn travel through Kellemderiel in secret, urging his people to leave the Pact and ally with the Tawon Empire. Many are listening to them.

For the first time in many years, the Pact seems to be in danger of falling apart. Avadon hunts for those who would tear the alliance apart, but it soon finds itself attacked from another direction.

The unrest in the Wretch Lands does not end. It only grows worse. The people of The Kva have to fight off constant incursions of wretches, ogres, and even the occasional titan. Zhethron continues to aid the Pact, but only because of his grievous wounds. When he recovers, he might well depart.

The dragon Zephyrine soon shows herself to be no ally to the Pact. She only grows more firmly entrenched in the Wretch Lands, building her defenses and gathering allies. It will be some time before anyone has the strength to dislodge her.

One small bright spot is that you were able to defeat the dragon Zephyrine. With her gone, the Pact will have a much easier time subduing this wild land.

Fortunately, you were able to return the secret papers you found in the lair of the titans to Avadon. Once these messages are decoded, the hidden lairs of many hostile Farlanders are revealed. Using this information, The Kva is able to do much to destroy their enemies.

Alas, in the dry wastes of southeast Lynaeus, many hard battles lie ahead.

In Khemeria, much as predicted, the many enemies of Dhorl Stead soon gather. They rush in, ready to destroy Dhorl Stead and claim Oghrym'Tor for themselves.

However, they soon find that, while the leaders of Dhorl Stead are gone, many of its best hunters and warriors survived. They take up residence inside the fortress and, with great courage and resolve, defeat the invaders.

Thus, though Laurella's journey to Avadon resulted in much carnage in her home, Dhorl Stead was able to survive and remain free.

They find a Stead greatly depleted. Most of its best warriors were lost during your assault. The invaders charge through Dhorl Stead's meager defenses and seize Carsta'Arl's mighty fortress.

Within weeks of your final departure, Dhorl Stead is no more.

The news from the Beraza Woods is grim. You know now that Duke Gryfyn had Monitor Shigaz and his fellow warriors murdered.

However, Avadon is unable to convince Holklanda that this assault was the act of a traitor. The Holklandans only see the murder of their countrymen by their hated rivals.

Hanvar's Council does all it can to calm the two rivals, to little avail. For the first time in almost a century, the Pact seems threatened by civil war. If it is not prevented, it will be a disaster beyond reckoning. It is here that the hidden foes of the Pact have scored their true victory.

It will only be revealed in the months and years to come whether this wound to the Pact is a mortal one.

Happily, you were able to banish the demon lord Beloch back to the infernal realms from which he came. In these chaotic times, it is unlikely that Avadon would have found the time and resources to deal with this powerful threat.

Unfortunately, the demon lord Beloch remains in Khemeria, precariously balanced between our world and the infernal realms. In these chaotic times, Avadon is unable to find the time and resources to deal with this powerful threat.

So far, nobody has found a way to master Beloch and help the beast to enter our world. All you can do is hope that this powerful threat stays trapped where it is ...
