Age: 38 Nationality: English Occupation: Owner of Beechwood Muntions Group
"The slovenly repel me. Not because of their appearance or demeanor, you understand. No, it is because it is they who have chosen to use their wealth to lie still and grow portly, rather than to expand their horizons and better themselves." - William Beechwood, 1875
Mr Beechwood inherited his immense metalwork fortune from his grandfather in 1835. His grandfather's company grew from modest roots, fabricating pikes for the earliest railway lines to the present day, where Beechwood Metals Group now creates some of finest metal alloys on the planet.
However, once the war broke out, William saw an opportunity to diversify his company. He began producing munitions more devastating than anything the world had seen before. Projectiles were no longer solid, but would carry small explosive payloads to their targets. Beechwood Munitions was born and their products were deadly.
Having acquired a wealth beyond imagining, Beechwood now seeks something else to occupy his mind. He looks to the glory of victory on the battlefield to build his legacy. Critics call him vainglorious and dangerously selfish in his war manoeuvres, but one thing's certain; he always gets the job done, whatever his true motivation.

'Through the power of the mind, I have crafted a body more powerful than any mere man could hope to wield. I am the embodiment of mind over matter. I have become Ironcast.' - Professor Kylock, 1886
Although his early history is shrouded in mystery, Kylock is one of the senior members of the Consortium. Prone to terrible rages, and long bouts of melancholia there are few who can bare the man's company for long periods, but his genius is utterly undeniable. With interests spanning science of every discipline, it is then surprising to learn he is equally fascinated by the arcane. Rumour has it that when Britain obtained their first Voltite samples, it was Kylock's laboratory that was tasked with unlocking its secrets. Since that time he has gained international acclaim as one of the leading minds in Voltite research, and indeed Ironcast design. Paralyzed from the waist down, the professor had from the early stages of his research been hell-bent on designing and building a device that would once again grant him the ability to walk.
There is a growing concern that the professor's maladies of the mind are getting the better of him in his old age, his military stratagems becoming erratic and his persecution of the enemy utterly without relent as he strides omnipotent across the battlefield in his Ironcast rending foes limb from limb be they man or machine. However, in these dire times neither the Consortium, nor the country itself can afford to lose a man of Walter Kylocks calibre, and so he remains in active service.

""England is a precious jewel, to be protected at all costs. To allow the enemy to even set foot on our glorious isle would be an insult to all that we hold dear. If I had my way we’d build a Voltite bomb so large we could wipe them from the face of the Earth." - Henry Brent, 1885
Henry Brent was born in 1833 in Maidstone, Kent to his father, Michael and his mother Raven. His father was a wealthy transportation magnate, owning several businesses that built and maintained rail lines throughout England and the British Isles. Henry was always destined to inherit his father's business, but he also wanted so much more. He dreamt of vehicles that would unrestrained by railroads, hit would instead drive the land freely as horses carriages had for decades.
It was an idea that was frequently balked at by his father; a subject that began to drive a wedge between the two stubborn men. Both held a strong vision for the future of the Brent Transportation Company, but time was on Henry's side. Once his father passed in 1875, the company was his to do with as he wished. The discovery of Voltite gave Henry a powerful alternative to coal combustion and renewed his drive to develop a road vehicle.
Brent could be credited with developing the first ever Voltite powered motor vehicle in 1880, however, it was his design of the Voltite Steamtank that secured his place in the House of Lords in 1882. It seemed that his transition to a member of the Consortium of Merit, and the protection of Britain against her enemies, was inevitable. \r\n

"If the house always wins, then it is best to own the house.” - Katherine Chapman, 1880
As a young girl, Katherine had an incredible talent for mathematics. She would solve any maths problem she could get her hands on and by the age of 10 was reading degree level textbooks and manuscripts. Her dream was to one day become a Professor of mathematics, just like her father who taught at Oxford.
However, by her fifteenth birthday she began to realise that her formal education was nearly at an end. She was destined to transition into a “finishing school”; where girls were primarily be taught how to be “good wives”. Degree level mathematics was not an option.
This frustrated Katherine immensely. She had little interest in boys; on the whole she found them to be dull, primitive and predictable. She especially hated the idea of becoming anyone’s wife. Instead, she only wished to learn more about mathematics. Katherine had always hoped to attend Oxford, perhaps to learn under her own father, but she soon realised that this would never come to pass; they didn’t allow women to enroll at the University.
Katherine was furious. She could not believe the injustice of her situation and lashed out at her father, who seemingly supported the broken norms. She left home at fifteen, taking what little money she had and left for London, where she would make her way in the world on her own.
It wasn’t long before the money ran out and Katherine found herself in some of the more unfortunate areas of London. She worked as a waitress in a particularly dingy corner of the Smokey City but in doing so became exposed to the illegal gambling rings that frequented them. She became fascinated with the idiots who gambled their life savings away, watching them throw good money after bad on ridiculously low odds. Her mind was uniquely suited to working through odds of many of the games, and she became really good at spotting the right times to bet and when to fold.
Katherine was only sixteen when she won her first game of poker, against a befuddled table full of adult men. Despite their lamentations and insults, she had beaten them fairly and had earned more on that night than she had taken with her to London just a few weeks before.
By 19 she’d bought her first home (in cash) and was looking to own a gambling establishment of her own.
When attempting to join Whites, the notorious St James Street gentleman’s club, Katherine was of course denied a membership. This was of no surprise to her but this latest example of patriarchy had been particularly irritating. Katherine returned less than a year later and did what she felt was right; she bought the whole establishment. Her first order of business was to eject the current list of members and make the club open to both men and women.
Katherine joined the Consortium in 1864, at just 25 years old.

Age: 29 Nationality: Kenyan Occupation: Engineer and architect
"Do not bemoan bad luck or misfortune. Neither exist." - Halisi Adoyo, 1879
Halisi Adoyo worked on Kenya's fledgling rail network from the age of just 15. She was an unskilled labourer at first, assisting the older men and women who were hammering track pieces into place, but showed ingenuity that her fellow workers lacked. She proposed several design changes throughout the rail project, but her ideas were either flippantly dismissed or stolen by her jealous colleagues.
It was only in 1873, when working on a cantilever bridge across a shallow ravine, Halisi noticed that the design of the structure was not compensating for the weight of the materials used to build it. She realised that it would collapse under it's own weight if not properly reinforced. She appealed to her superiors and after several days was finally given an audience with the railway's British architect, Sir Benjamin Leaver.
Mr Leaver listened intently to Halisi's recommendations at length and after more than an hour realised that the young girl had been right. Her keen eye had avoided a potential disaster, both for the finances and the schedule of the project. Mr Leaver asked if Halisi would mind working as his advisor for the remaining 4 years of the rail project. Halisi agreed.
Half a decade later, and Halisi was the master engineer on some of the largest and most important bridge construction projects in East Africa. However, it was her invention of a new way of fusing metals together that made her her first million. Halisi had devised a way of melding 2 metal surfaces together in seconds, with a bond that was stronger than the metal panels themselves.
She was invited to join the Consortium of Merit only a few years later, in order to help strengthen the Ironcast and improve their resilience in combat. She moved to England in 1885 in order to begin her new life as an architect of war.

Age: 27 Nationality: Welsh Occupation: CTO of Powell Energy Co.
"There are two types of woman; One allows herself to exist purely as decoration, acting as supporting cast to their husband's grand performance. The other marches forth into this world of men, and takes what she wants from those too weak to oppose her. Which do you think I am?" - Aeres Powell, 1885
Lady Aeres Powell was brought up in the highest levels of fortune, living in a mansion on the beautiful Welsh coast. She had servants and maids waiting upon her and her 2 sisters hand and foot whilst growing up, but unlike her siblings, she began to despise the waste that such wealth brought. Her grandfather had been a coal miner, building a great fortune from decades of hard work and dedication, qualities which Aeres could not see in her parents or sisters. They were content to waste their lives as aristocracy, a fate worse than death to young Aeres.
At the age of 21 she left home and travelled to London, where she explored her love of the sciences and enrolled on any courses that could expand her knowledge of electricity and electronics. By the age of 25 she was a pioneer in electrical engineering, pushing the boundaries of what was currently possible with electricity.
Not long after the beginning of the Anglo-French war Aeres received word that Oxwich Wood, the location of her family home, had been struck by a coastal bombardment. Her entire family had been killed in the attack whilst visiting Port Eynon. She was now the sole heir to her grandfather's fortune.
Although both her parents died in the attack, it was the loss of her two sisters that affected Aeres the most. She vowed to avenge their deaths and formed the Powell Energy Co, investing nearly all profits from her business into weapon research and development.
It was Aeres' company that created the first energy lance weapons.

The Windsor was designed and built no more than a few miles away from Windsor Castle, Surrey. Its design was inspired by the great gothic churches and cathedrals that populate the area, but it is by no means a soft machine. Under the beautiful stained glass detailing lies a sturdy iron alloy frame; the Windsor is a true machine of war.

Designed and built in Stirling, Scotland, this Ironcast is a solid all-rounder. It's strengths lie in its unique hull mounted weapon system; the Limpet Cannon. The cannon launches electrically charged "limpets"; magnetically adhesive mines that build up and discharge a deadly payload of electrical energy into their unfortunate target.

The Warwick is a tough beast, even by Ironcast standards. It's built to take punishment better than any other machine of the same size and can periodically deploy a patented electrical charge to its outer shell, which further enhances the durability of its hull for a short period of time.
It is named after Warwick Castle, in Warwickshire, England.

The Pembroke is one of the most ostentatious of all Ironcast designs. Decorated with fine brass filigree, the Pembroke is certainly one of the most striking of all Ironcast. However, under the veneer of beauty is a hardy killing machine, boasting one of the strongest hulls of all Ironcast.
Its furnace style designs also hints at one of the most unusual Ironcast abilities; a heat ray that's able to cause enemy Ironcast to overheat at range, and in some cases, burst into flames.
It is named after Pembroke Castle, West Wales.

The Arundel is an unusual machine to say the least. At its core is an advanced liquid Voltite generator, able to extract more electrical energy from its power source than other Ironcast. However, whilst this generator provides a greater flow of energy, it also limits the machine's capacity to carry ammunition.
It is named after Arundel Castle, in West Sussex, England.

The Dunraven is designed and built in Scotland, by the Glenn and Barfoot Engineering Company. It is built using a variety of construction techniques found in the assembly of steam trains and as such was one of the earliest models of Ironcast to appear on the battlefield.
It is a fairly balanced Ironcast, able to turn it's hand to any role in battle, albeit not as well as the other, more specialised machines. Many models feature an inbuilt missile rack, able to launch up to 6 small explosive tipped rockets in rapid succession.
It is named after Dunraven Castle, in South Wales.
