Someday Youll Return /

→Princess
→The Beast rushed into the castle and soon he found his daughter sneaking around. He called upon his amulet and suddenly the ground started to shake and strange snakes made out of steel started to crawl out of the castle walls.

The princess cried for help, but there was nobody to help her.

It looked like everything was lost for the poor princess as the Beast was approaching her and she had nowhere to be run. But then suddenly, out of the blue …

→Night came and the Devil approached the Beast with a sinister smile.
“Oh, you poor thing.” laughed the devil. “That curse made all the women look like dolls to you. You will never know which one is the true Princess”.
“Then I’ll kill them all. And I won’t stop until my promise to you is fulfilled.” said the Beast.
“I told you, that I am a fair merchant.” replied the Devil.
“Your princess is on her way into your castle. It shouldn’t be too hard to catch her now, would it?”
→In the meantime the Beast returned to the submerged castle where he wanted to fulfill at least one part of his promise to the Devil. When he arrived to take the Queen’s body, it was nowhere to be seen. Instead a small armless doll lied on the ground. The Beast took the doll and hung it on the tallest tree as instructed by the devil. Then he leaned against the tree in waiting for the Devil.
→“What should I do?” asked the Princess desperately.
“Take this magical charm.” answered the strange man.
“Your father wears an amulet. If you want to leave this place, you have to insert this charm into the amulet, which he is wearing. Only then you’ll be able to escape this curse.”
“Thank you!” said the princess, but the man was nowhere to be seen as if he’d vanish into thin air.
→Finally the King beheld the princess, who sat on the ground, exhausted from the long run. He jumped from his horse, readied his ax and walked towards her.

As she saw her father, she screamed in horror: “Curse you! Let your eyes be forever shrouded by a darkness of your heart!” At that moment King’s head started to melt and soon he changed into a strange beast. The princess ran to the horse, and before the Beast could do anything, she rode away. She thought that she escaped her cruel fate but after less than a mile her horse suddenly stopped, neighing at something ahead.

→Filled with hatred, the King cursed his daughter as he didn’t fulfill the promise which he has given to the Devil. He called upon his steed and galloped in a direction where he thought the girl has fled. The forest around him grew deeper and denser and suddenly he found himself entirely disoriented and lost somewhere in the middle of the deep and dark woods. When he thought that all is lost, the King turned up to the sky and screamed at the top of his lungs, holding the amulet in his left hand. As his horrible shriek pierced the sky, a black raven suddenly appeared, circling around the King’s head. King called at the raven: “You have to tell me where my daughter is!” The raven pointed its wing towards the direction where the princess ran. King followed the direction and whenever he lost the way, he called upon the raven that showed him the right way.
→The next morning, just after the breakfast, the King did what he was told and killed the queen with the Devil’s dagger. When he was cutting off her limbs, the princess walked in and saw the horrible deed. She screamed and ran away to avoid the fate of her mother. When she was a mere mile away from the castle, she turned around three times and shouted “Let you and the castle be cursed forever.” At that very moment the ground started to shake and the castle submerged into the ground with only the top of the tallest tower emerging behind the ground. The princess turned away and ran until she was out of breath.
→Devil pondered for a while and then said with a sneer: “Alright, you maggot. Listen closely, for I will not say this twice.” With these words he pulled out a long dagger.

”Take this dagger and tomorrow, just after the breakfast, pierce the hearts of both the Queen and the Princess. Then cut their limbs with an ax and hang their bodies on the tallest tree of your kingdom. Throw their limbs for wild animals to feast upon for I have no use for them. I’ll see you again, when this deed is done.”

With these words the Devil vanished again.

→“So be it!”, said sweetly the fellow in green and pulled out an old and worn parchment.
“Sign here with your blood, and your protection will be secured.”.
Without hesitation the King took a quill, and with a drop of blood from his finger, he signed the contract. The visitor quickly hid the parchment and bid his farewell.

Only then the King asked: “So how will you protect me? And … for how long?”
“Haven’t you read the contract?” asked the man in green.
“Vaguely. I was more concerned about my protection.” said the King.
The strange guest laughed: “Even if I don’t have to, I am a fair merchant and I’ll tell you. On your bed you will find a special amulet. Put it on and no harm will be done to you. The amulet will protect you for eleven years. After that I’ll come for you and your soul will be forever mine.”

Horrified, the King finally realized, that he’s just signed a contract with the Devil.
“Is there any way how to avoid such a cruel fate?”, pleaded the King.

→The morning came and the King was even more restless than the previous day. This time he was sneaking out on his wife and daughter to see what they are up to. It was just after the lunch, when he found them in the kitchen. His daughter was pointing at wine casks while whispering something to the Queen.

The King sneaked out and when the dinner came, he pretended that he didn’t see anything. When nobody was looking, he spilled his wine on the ground only to praise how great the wine was today.

That night he was waiting and when the man in green finally arrived, the King told him: “I was a fool for I didn’t believe you. Today I saw with my very eyes that they are trying to poison me. I require your protection.”

→Next day the King aimlessly wandered about. He couldn’t believe that there is something he wouldn’t know about. More than once he found himself to be suspiciously observing the Queen and the Princess. There was indeed something strange in their behavior and when the dinner-bell stroke, the King’s heart was already overflowing with suspicion. He refused to eat his meal or drink his wine for the fear of being poisoned. “Why are you so sad, my dear?” asked the Queen, but the King stood up, and without uttering a single word, he left and locked himself up in his chamber.

Night came and with it another knocking on the door. The King didn’t answer, but then the door opened effortlessly as if they were never locked. In the door, the man in green stood again. “Do you believe me, now?” asked the stranger. “Go away!” said the King but this time with less confidence than the last night. “As you wish.” said the visitor and once again he disappeared as if he was never there.

→There was once a King who lived with his wife and their only daughter in a castle up above the trees. He ruled his kingdom in a way that was neither good nor bad. His grip on the kingdom was firm, though. He always knew where things got cold.

One night a strange fellow, dressed in a green hunting garb, knocked on the door of his chamber.

“How did you get past my guards?” inquired the King as the strange green man entered.
“I came to warn you.” answered the unexpected guest. Your wife and your daughter are plotting to kill you. If you sign a contract with me, I’ll offer you a protection.”
“Get out of here or …!” exclaimed the King but the visitor was nowhere to be seen, as if he vanished without a trace.

→The trial of agility

Excited by my discoveries, I decided to search for the last rod of Prince Predslav. This time I went back to the gate and on the right I saw an ancient map. The map spoke of a rock called “Kozel”. Following the map I reached this rock and up above the trees I discovered the missing rod.

When I discovered the rods for the first time, I thought that I was fooled by the ancients. 0

→The trial of courage

To find the second rod, I followed the journey of Prince Svatopluk. I returned to the flagpole and walked around it three times counterclockwise while whispering the word Svatopluk. After I finished the ritual, I ran to the settlement gate, turned around and walked 20 steps towards the flagpole. I turned right and walked until my path was blocked by a rock. I turned back again and then I noticed a small opening on the right. Following that small path I reached a small brook. I walked upstream until I reached a cave. In that cave I discovered the second of the rods.

→3 Rods of Svatopluk

In the days, when king Svatopluk II ruled Great Moravia, a legend was born. One day he summoned his three sons Mojmir, Svatopluk and Predslav to show them three rods. Then he told them: “Observe my children! These rods are like our kingdom. Keep them together as one and no force can break it. Alas! Separate them and they will break, along with the whole kingdom.” The sons failed to protect the rods and thus the country was punished by a civil war leading to death and misery.

Many think this legend is merely an allegory, but I’ve discovered that those rods actually existed and referred to ancient powerful artifacts hiding a mysterious code. If you want to retrieve that secret, you have to walk in my footsteps and overcome three trials.

The trial of strength

I sensed that Prince Mojmir couldn’t have gone too far. So I started in our settlement next to the flagpole and noticed on my left there were two high-seats. I faced the one which was further from me and walked until I discovered a small campfire. I never strayed from my path, though and finally I reached the first rod, which was left there by the first of the sons.

→Mura

The most dangerous of the forest creatures are the Můra. They are white, female specters who intercept human settlements in the form of a vegetable stalk, pale shadow or a white cat. Some even transform into flies with a red band around their tiny necks.

Můra usually suffocate sleeping people but they also harm animals, plants and trees. Not everyone knows that the Můra is a living human, who only turns into a demonic form at night without actually knowing it. You can repel them with a gift of fresh bread or a sign called “Můra’s leg” as depicted below.

I’ve found one of these devil-spawns on my way from our settlement as I walked towards the St. Kliment’s chapel. A large totem of a horned animal talked to me and asked me to take the left path.

There, hidden in a dark forest was a huge Můra, lying in wait for me. I fought her and obtained a symbol of knowledge. In her last minute, she already tainted many trees by various symbols to lead me astray, but I persisted and used my newly found knowledge to locate the proper symbol which opened the path for me.

→To cleanse the evil, which you’ve brought to the land, you have to purify the heart of the corruption called Corcillum Delicti, using a special potion.

To create this potion, cook petals from Mandrake, Jimsonweed and Henbane.

Take the potion, spill it on the ground next to the heart and wait until a swirl is created.

When you see the swirl picking up, quickly plug an angel-winged totem into the ground.
Be careful to never drink the potion or you will become one with the Corcillum.

→Psilocybe bohemica, the aptly named magic mushroom, has been used for its mind enhancing qualities in many magic rituals. It varies in shape from sharply conical to bell-shaped and doesn’t change shape considerably as it ages. The cap is hygrophanous, meaning it changes color depending on its state of hydration. When moist, the cap is pale to dark brown but darker in the center, often with a greenish-blue tinge.

Potentilla anserina known as silverweed got its name from the silky white hairs present on its leaf stem and stolons. It can be used to calm the mind or ward off evil spirits and witches. There is a legend that the Christ Child lived in and walked the roads of Palestine and the yellow flowering plant of the dusty wayside with silvery fern-like leaves that lay flat on the ground has been called the Footsteps of Our Lord.
