Uncle Feodor's Beloved Girl

Fairy-tale novel

Chapter one
A KATIE-GIRL APPEARANCE

Summer came to Clabber village.

End since Clabber village was often mentioned in the newspapers and over the TV it became a very modish resort.

People parked their cars, put up tents and built fires on the Clubber riverside.

Cat Sailor was nervous:
- We came here to live quite and alfresco.

But the noise here is worse than in the town.

The way things are going, we'll have to leave for town again.

It is not so loud there in summer.

And Blob didn't worry at all.

He was scamperring over interesting places with his photographical rifle.

He overran all the tents, all the summer houses, all the cottages and beaches and brought great amount of pictures.

He was especially good at taking pictures of nature, russian landscapes.

Matroskin decided once:
- Why do his photos lie idle? We have to start printing greeting cards or calendars.

And he started making those cards and calendars in a village school printing-office
and selling them in a local kiosk.

There used to be a shoe-repair shop before.

Then it burnt down.

Then there was a soft drink stall.

And burnt down too.

Then, in the most tough times,
a local council was there.

And it burnt down too, the tough one.

Then a club for the young people was in the kiosk.

Funny as it may seem, but it burnt down as well.

And so Matroskin the cat rented this burning spot.

The quality was not superb, but still people were glad to buy a postcard.

Mornings Matroskin was selling sour cream and milk together with postcards .

So he was quite a prospering village businessman.

Sharik couldn't take pictures of people with his photographical rifle, beacuse they were scared of it.

So he focused on nature.

Still sometimes there were people on his photos.

One of them was a shock for Uncle Fyodor.

He was examining it for a long time.

It was a photo of an unfamiliar girl.

Looked like a Barbie! Though it was not a Barbie,
but an ordinary girl named Kate.

It's just that she came from America.

Her father, professor Semin's brother, was working there.

Fyodor has looked at the photo for so many time that even Matroskin started to worry.

- It looks like Uncle Fyodor fell in love.

We can lose him.

That's the last thing we want.

Blob said:
- What's a big deal falling in love? It's not like he is bleeding from his head in a hospital.

Nothing will happen to him.

- You don't get it.
Matroskin disagreed.

What if he goes out with this girl.

He will take her for a walk, give her flowers, take her on a tractor ride. No time to remember us.

- Fine, let them be, - said Blob.

- Dating hasn't hurt anybody yet.

- Really? - yelled Matroskin.

- What if they both started to believe it's true love and got married in ten years!

- What next? Children?

- How much time would be for us?
Now, Blob got thinking. It was not some usual cheerful prospectives.

So, he's given up.

It was then, when Uncle Feodor was getting ready for a stroll.

"OK, If he would dress up, remember to comb his hair, wash his face, does it mean he is in love?" Thought Matroskin.

But, if he just dresses his same old, that would mean that everything is all right.

No worries, then.

At that time, Uncle Feodor has washed himself, took care of his hair and put on his new matroska-shirt.

Just a model babe from the cover.

That's it, This is too much.

In a meantime, Uncle Feodor brought Tr-Tr Mitya out, refreshed it with some left over, which happened to be last supper milk soup and morning cottage cheese. And after that, he was ready to start his journey, when...

Matroskin approached Uncle Feodor and asked:
- Where are you going?
Feodor replied with one thing that came up:
- Fishing.

- Fishing what, whales?
- Why whales? Gudgeons. Roaches if you wish, replied Uncle Feodor.

- Sure thing.
Said Matroskin.

-Right, and the tractor you are taking is for pulling fish out?

Listen Uncle Feodor. I am going with you.

-Let's go,- complied Uncle Feodor.

- Don't take any equiptment yet.

First, we are going to find a good fishing spot.

Tr-tr Mitya came to live by making weird noises, and started to head ahead the main country road.

Clabber village was hard to recognize.

Well-dressed farmers in colourful caps working on the fields, weeding out potato beds.

Tractor operators driving their tractors wearing suits and ties.

In word, looked like a holiday resort in Antalya or Golden Sands, not like a village.

Fyodor drove up to professor Semin's house.

He stopped and started repairing tr-tr Mitya.

Inflating its tires.

While repairing Mitya he shooted looks at professor's house every now and then - in case a girl from Blob's photo came out.

By the way, there were large improvements on professor Semin's premises.

There was not even a trace from previous run-down.

Instead, there were all kind of modern buildings with huge balconies.

Car sheds and tulips glades were there too.

Everything was new and tidy.

Suddenly, Uncle Feodor realized that the girl from the photo was standing right beside him.

She was wearing shorts, vest with pockets, boots on bare feet, and holding 9x12 spanner.

- Boy, what is a brand of your tractor?
- Brands can be only at smiths'.

Tractors have companies.

What company?

ITP.

- I never heard of it before, - said the girl.

- It is not a company, - explained Uncle Feodor.

It's a kind of a factory "Iron Tractor Products"

What kind of model?

Special one called Mitya.

Tr-tr Mitya.

Tr-tr means a tractor.

And Mitya means an Engineer Tyapkin's Model.

Tyapkin is a kind of a worldwide inventor.

I don't know him.

I know Ford, Chrysler, Porsche but not Tyapkin.

How many horsepowers does your tractor have?

Turned out she was not an ordinary girl.

She was fond of cars very much.

She could recall all cars' brands and models.

She started to talk about them to Uncle Feador.

She explained that the tractor's power is measured with horses.

It has as many horse powers as many horses it can pull.

She was doing it so well that even Matrosskin has got facsinated.

Then, he suddenly remembered and said:
- So what, we don't know much about the cars.

However, we can tell everything about fish, and birds, and mammals.

Pechkin, for instance, knows everything about herbs.

His granny was a witch.

Now even Uncle Feador was astonished.

"Wow," he said. "That's a news! The postman's Pechkin grandma was a witch!"

And I had no idea about that.

"She wasn't really a witch".

She worked in the Village Council, and witchcraft was only her part-time job.

Oh, how interesting your postman is! - the girl Katie said.

- Let's visit him.

"May we do this?"
"Of course we do," uncle Fedor answered.

- We are old friends.

But Matroskin frowned:
"But our friendship is weird - half-connected"

We give him everything - tee and candies, but he gives us nothing.

- He used to be that way before, - said uncle Fiodor.

- When he didn't have his bicycle.

But now, when he got the bicycle, he's a completely different person.

He is well-off now.

- Well-off people are the most important ones, - said Katie.

- That's what my dad says.

They form middle class.

It was very interesting to know about his magic granny.

On the way back Katja said that she also knows something about fishes and animals.

Because she likes to read books by Brehm.

This such an author, who had studied animals and wrote about them.

He said, that he is going to give this book to uncle Fedor.

If she is able to carry it home.

The book is very heavy.

Pechkin was at home.

When someone has a stomach ache, he should make some tea with it.

And this is motherwort.

Sometimes person is such nervous.

Especially a child.

He yells, fights.

He has bitten a dog, for example.

And that's it, he calms down immediately.

And a dog too.

And parents also may have some rest.

Uncle Fedor asked:
"Igor Ivanovich, is that true, that your grandmother was a witch?"
"Only on half", Pechkin answered.

"She used to turn a penny at evenings."

She had been making a philter for the customers.

"Could she fly on the broom?" uncle Fedor asked.

She did.

- Of course.

But seldom.

Only when she was late at party meetings.

She flied bad.

Like a crow with a dumpbell.

Pechkin said:
"To know, how to make it, we have to read it in my grandmother's books.

I have her magic book.

A pity, but a text there is tiny.

And I lost my glasses somewhere".

Uncle Fedor asked:
"When have you lost them?"
"Two days ago."

"Can they be your?"
"Impossible," said Pechkin, "but yes, they are mine".

They are not useless but even very useness.

Give it back to me, please.

Although she didn't mean to.

We must submit to the police.

Glasses today, a TV-set tomorrow.

Matroskin replied:
- You shouald buy a TV-set first, and then be nervous.

Because you don't even have a radio.

We better apologize.

Don't be mad on us, Igor Ivanovich.

Chapter two.
HOW THEY REALLY WERE FISHING.

Next day it started to rain.

He told Matroskin:
- All the might of the rod is in float.

The more the float is,

.

.

The more the fish! - Sharik yelled.

"Right", said Matroskin.

And Uncle Feodor went on:
- The more the float is, harder it's to fish.

A float shound be light and nervous.

All day he prepared like that.

The other day it got warm in Prostokvashino, even hot.

All the people went to the water.

Our heroes sat on the shore.

"Maybe they know some spell."

But we can't catch anything.

Katie says:
- What a good boy your Uncle Feodor is.

I haven't seen such good boys for a while.

I can even prepare a list for you.

- Yes, - Sharik agreed.

- Very young.

- Young means unexperienced.

Unexperienced means silly.

I'd also love my parents if I had them.

- What else?
- Loves nature, - Matroskin remembers.

-Thanks, - Kate said.

You are real friends.

1. Too young.

2. Loves his parents too much.

3. Loves nature too much.

4. Never participates in fightings.

5. Brings in home any animal.

Even sick animal.

6.

Doesn't like to hoard money, doesn't like to sell milk on the market.

7. Reads too much.

8. Brushes teeth every day and therefore consumes lots of hot water.

9. And that's not all.

Kate read the list and said:
- Oh, you've disappointed me. It's not the boy, it's an angel.

I should get to know him.

- That's right, - the girl said.

There are a lot of presidents now.

"I know, I know.

I'm not blind.

Everyone is talking about it in the village.

Now I am going to be the most important person for you.

But I don't understand one thing.

Why are you getting so scared of his love.

"Simple.

"So what did happen?" Sharik askes.

"She had no experience".

About elephants.

- What should I bring for you? - mum asked.

It's good for teeth.

"Then I'll come tomorrow morning.

- Whaat? - the dog shouts.

- And what about cats?
- They don't test it on cats, - Matroskin says.

- Why?
- Because cats scratch.

- Nonsense! - Sharik yells.

dog is an indispensable subject

and who can replace a cat? matroskin asked.

I can share an autumn with you.

My father is an art professor

in all the museums he visited, he looked for a cat on the pictures there.

and he saw a nice one on the rembrandt's picture/

Katie even drew a portrait of Uncle Feodor.

She liked Uncle Feodor very much.

Good song.

And Uncle Feodor didn't understand it.

Because he was only friends with Katie.

Let her paint his portrait.

- Did you fight?
- Of course not.

- So? - Uncle Feodor was surprised.

I will paint you.

I should always have a bag and a bicycle with me.

- He was deaf too.

Pechkin's portrait was almost done.

Thanks.

It was disgusting.

dont need anymore.

There must be a lot about seas and oceans.

Uncle Feodor will forget her.

And take to Uncle Feodor.

You don't even have to ask such a man.

He writes books himself.

Which means he's a student.

Or an aspirant.

And stout.

I improve eyesight.

- Then I don't need you, - Sharik says.

- Okay, - Fedorov replies.

- Well done, boy.

They ran for Katie.

Because he's very serious and polite.

Here comes Katie.

Her uncle is Professor Seomin.

He studies animals.

She came from America with her dad.

- Your friends prepared it.

I've made a punishment for us.

For a month.
