A golden dove-cote by the water

So tender and so fainted green

Is sweeping up the salty breeze

And narrow traces of the black barks

There are so many loving queer faces in the crowd

There are so many blazing playthings in the shops:

A lion with a book on an embroidered pillow,

A lion with a book on some kind of a marble pole.

Like on an ancient dingy canvas

The dull-blue sky is getting cold…

But it’s not cramped in all this closeness

And it’s not stuffy in this moisture and heat.
