Catherine Cawood – a firm but fair police officer whose extremely professional demeanour makes a personal tragedy.
She’s the sergeant on duty when flustered accountant Kevin Weatherill (a terrific Steve Pemberton) stumbles into the station to report a crime – a crime that was his own doing. In order to fund his children’s private education, he dreamt up a kidnapping scenario involving his boss's daughter.
However, a local criminal gets involved and – whether he likes it or not – Kevin's scheme is being brought to life. Desperate to put an end to it, he heads to the police station. Catherine is subsequently thrust into investigating the botched abduction. However, she becomes emotionally involved in the case as it evokes memories of her own daughter’s death.
