Не знаю как обыграть слово «wer».

“You have come to pay wer?” the first demon asked, blocking our way into the house.
“Well, I guess I’ll pay wherever Bael wants, although I’d like to get this over with quickly.”
Jim, the two demons, and Rene all looked at me as if I was suddenly speaking in Serbo-Croatian.
“What have I said now?” I asked them.
“Wer is the name of the payment that Bael has asked. It is not a location, you understand?” Rene explained.
“Oh. Sorry. Um, yes, I’ve come to pay the wer.”

‘‘Ah, but he’s not a man at all,’’ Magoth answered, looking down at himself. He shuddered delicately and returned to his normal appearance, thankfully complete with clothing. ‘‘I tell myself that one day I will understand your preference for the silver wyvern over me, but I begin to wonder if it is not just some perverse obstinacy on your part.’’
I took a deep breath, ignoring the need to lash out. My voice was as bland as I could make it as I asked, ‘‘Was there something you wanted, a threesome aside?’’
‘‘How about a threesome astride?’’ he asked hopefully.

“Love you. Kisses and hugs. Smoochies galore. Licks, nibbles, and assorted gropages.”
I could almost hear Drake’s eyes rolling. He disliked overt shows of affection in public, which just made me say the most outrageous things to him in private. “Good-bye, Aisling.”

3)
Bridget gripped the arm of the chair. Her hands trembled.
“He was k-killed last year,” Father Santos said gently. “Wasn’t he?”
“Killed” was an insult. “Murdered.”

‘‘Sometimes when Ash gives me an order, there’s wiggle room,’’ Jim said. ‘‘What did Magoth say exactly?’’
‘‘He told me to bring him the phylactery. There’s no wiggle room there that I can see.’’
Aisling looked thoughtful for a moment. ‘‘What that means is that if you physically have the phylactery in your possession, you must give it to him.’’
‘‘Ye-es,’’ I said slowly, not seeing where she was going.
‘‘So that means we simply don’t let you touch it. If you don’t have it in your possession, you can’t turn it over to him, right? Easy as pie—you may be a renowned thief, but the green dragons are no slouches when it comes to stealing things. And Drake is especially good at it.’’
‘‘I thought of that,’’ I said, despair digging into me with sharp little jabs. ‘‘The L’au-delà vault is sure to be heavily protected. It will surely be beyond the means of even the craftiest of dragons to enter it . . . but I can get in places where no one else can. It will be up to me to locate the phylactery. And if I’m that close to it without anyone else around who might conceivably oppose me, it would constitute a dybbuk if I did not take it into my possession. I just don’t see a way around it—that’s why I thought you might have an idea about defying an order.’’
‘‘I’m afraid I am just as helpless,’’ she said with genuine regret. ‘‘Jim?’’
The demon shook its shaggy head. ‘‘Nada. Dybbuk is the only thing I can think of, and I wouldn’t advise it. Magoth may be a few dinner rolls short of a smorgasbord, but he’s no idiot. He’ll be bound to make an example out of you for the rest of his minions.’’


Не знаю, как перевести, выделенное жирным шрифтом. Если в первом случае я еще понимаю, что там имеется в виду, но не могу подобрать подходящую фразу. То во втором, все совсем печально. Заранее спасибо.

Есть ли какой-нибудь устоявшийся перевод названия «Suffrage House»?

Искала долго и безуспешно, и может не там вовсе. Пока склоняюсь обозвать это прям так – Суфраж-Хаус.

‘‘Suffrage House,’’ he answered.
My spirits dropped. Suffrage House was the mansion of a long-dead suffragette, bought by the L’au-delà, and now used as their headquarters.

Не могу понять смысла второй части последнего предложения.

Не знаю как точно перевести пару слов:

1) phylactery – имеется ввиду что-то вроде амулета, но перевести как амулет я не могу, так как эти слова встретятся где-то в одном предложении. Корректно ли будет переводить это слово как «филактерия»?

2) The Liquor Hepatis – алхимическая жидкость, имеющая какие-то магические свойства.

Liquor Hepatis was the name given to another sulfurous liquid used by the alchemists. It was prepared by distilling a solution of sulfur, lime, and sal ammoniac. They secured lime (calcium oxide) by heating limestone and made sal ammoniac (ammonium chloride) by gently heating camel dung in sealed containers. The distillation for Liquor Hepatis produced a combination of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia gases. Since no solids precipitated, alchemists considered this an ascending reaction only. That was a significant fact to the Egyptians, who associated the Liquor with the soul. They solidified that presence by adding wax and fat to Liquor Hepatis and turning it into a thick paste. The emulsion became known as the Balsam of the Alchemists or Balsam of the Soul. The possibility of coagulating an invisible potential into a second body, like a balsam, became a basic tenet of alchemy.

Долго пыталась найти или придумать какие-нибудь русские аналоги эвфемизмам, приведенным в оригинале текста. Но воображалка у меня давно не пашет, а найти ничего не получилось. Наверное не там искала и не то... В общем, пока переводила дословно...

Может у кого какие идеи будут по переводу. Заранее спасибо.
